Local communities understanding the environmental consequences of renewable development, the importance of their local environment in their community - Ocean Literacy etc. Allowing communities to have informed opinions and share thoughts in an informed way
links very closely with Green recovery and wellbeing - how do we engage people with the Dee Estuary more, and what do we want them to engage with?
How to we create long term projects - 1 years worth of engagement, wont let it stick - we want people to engage in the right way, for a long time
thinking of cross boarder enagement too - do we want to involve the english side in our MAS? are there similar projects that could be part funded from each side?
Barrier: Physical barriers between communities and the coastal environment: Train line, sea wall, dual carriage road
Opportunity perhaps to work collaborativelywith Flintshire CC and partners to deliver green infrastructure projects that link communities to the coast and deliver health and wellbeing outcomes
This lack of connection can be seen elsewhere in Wales. It might be due to deprivation, but also could be lack of Marine businesses, employment.
Opportunity to work with PSB - Flintshire Environement sub group are looking at opportunities for access / active travel routes / footpaths etc
@richard.dearing for access and green infrastructure
find a specific area along the coast, match up with a local community and engage. -ref. Kimnel Bay sand dunes project.
Barrier may be lack of engagement with any project
Solution may be to find an existing group who are already engaged and start with them
e.g. choose a bit of shore line with something interesting and accessible, engage with a local group (already established), pour all effort and resources into this one specific area
Some of the shore is physically inaccessible due to muddiness etc.
very little saltmarsh, very narrow foreshore
is there an opportunity to look at SMP Policies, and look for areas where coastal squeeze maybe happening - and build in accessibility and aesthetics.... and also nature based solutions, linked to carbon capture projects or ecostructure options
map out where engagement is already happening and where projects are already happening across the Dee Estuary and up stream as well - creating that link between MAS and Terrestrial NE AS too
